Last Saturday, King Beysus blessed the universe with her new visual album, “LEMONADE”, first on HBO, then on Tidal, and then releasing the audio album on iTunes earlier this week. And the universe was shaken to its VERY CORE.
King Beyonce Giselle Knowles Carter once again bore her mind, body, and soul to us, her lucky and unworthy subjects, and all we can do is just BASK in her Afro-Creole awesomeness; her Sexy Southern Gothic Femme Blackity-Black-Black-Blackness was on 1 MILLION, and I, among the millions of the King’s subjects and bees of the Beyhive, were GIVEN LIFE.
I don't e'en believe in a sky daddy, but this is how I felt after LEMONADE dropped:
But of course, whenever Beyonce does ANYTHING these days, fucking White people have some entitled White shit to say about it.
Bey’s too scantily clad and sexual who perpetuates the patriarchy
Or she’s too wealthy to be a feminist
Or she can't be a feminist if she takes side chicks and mistresses to task for their part in her partner's infidelity, ALONG WITH TAKING HER HUSBAND TO TASK
or she’s militant (aka TOO BLACK FOR MY ENTITLED WHITE COMFORT)
or she’s using the plight of Black mothers who’ve lost their children to police brutality to sell records (because Beyonce’s obviously hurting for money, right, Piers Morgan?)
Or Bey’s a fake and evil #sjw who’s the reeeeal racist one who inspires racists like MRA Janet Bloomfield to don Blackface---or more like Orange Oompa-Loompa face---cuz reverse racism!!
On the FLIP side of this, there are too many White people who want to claim #LEMONADE as mainstream/transcending race (aka THEIRS), as some on Twitter did with Prince because he, rest in power, was light-skinned (nevermind that both his parents were chocolate Blackity-Black-Black-Black, and that Price NEVER separated himself from his Blackness, but…whatever).
I’m here to tell y’all simple Bens and Beckys…..
You can appreciate the album as a work of art and all that, but when appreciating it—or even daring to critique it, keep in mind that:
#LEMONADE IS NOT FOR YOU.
THIS #LEMONADE WAS NOT MADE FOR YOUR CONSUMPTION OR COMFORT IN MIND.
KEEP YOUR GODDAMNED HANDS OFF MY #LEMONADE.
Side note: “BECKY” is not a racial epithet/slur. Neither is “MAYO”.
Now, PLEASE COLLECT IGGY AZALEA AND ENSURE SHE STOPS TWEETING AND NEVER MAKES ANOTHER ALBUM AGAIN.
SUCK ON MAH BAWLS!
